Funding Opportunities for Semester Abroad
If you are planning a semester at a foreign university, you have to plan for some savings. After all, you don't only have to pay for university fees, but also for your accommodation, food and, of course, you want to see something even if you have already lived in another country. But you are not on your own when it comes to financing! If you're smart, you should find out beforehand which funding programs are also available for semesters abroad.
AuslandsBAföG - Support for Stays Abroad
Semesters abroad must have a minimum duration of six months or one semester or twelve weeks (studies within the framework of a university cooperation). Here, too, there is a good chance of receiving a subsidy if you already receive Bafög in Germany. The same applies to the amount as for the internship abroad. It is important to apply in good time so that you will already be sponsored on your arrival.

The different types of scholarships offered by the DAAD vary according to duration, field of study and the respective country, which students, interns, graduates, artists, scientists and doctoral candidates can choose freely.
PROMOS
The Promos program is not only for internships abroad but also for semesters abroad, inside or outside the EU! Your project can be supported by up to 500€ per month. Check with the International Office at your university to see if funding from the PROMOS program is available.

Fulbright Federal Initiative
Although the Fulbright Program is one of the largest exchange programs for study projects in the USA, this also applies to a combined stay of one semester and a subsequent internship abroad. The prerequisite for this is that you are at least in your third semester (FH) or fourth semester (university). If you are a graduate, however, you must not have graduated more than one year ago. In addition, good English language skills and a high level of general knowledge about Germany and the USA are important for the interview before the Fulbright Commission in Berlin.
