About this position
Overview: Bali Culture and Impact Tour, Indonesia
Bali is unique! Not only because of the year-round surf or the paradise-like landscape but because of its extraordinary culture – not only Indonesia but worldwide! The Hinduism practiced in Bali can only be found here: It’s the island of Gods, the island of 1000 temples, where Hindus have lived in balance with nature for over a thousand years, and have found a special way of integrating religion into their daily lives.
During this 12-day Bali tour you will not only travel as a tourist but rather as a responsible traveler! You’ll see beautiful temples and breathtaking beaches, but above all you will get to know the warm-hearted Balinese community. You will learn how Hindus live in Bali, how to make offerings and how the locals have adapted to the rapid change created by tourism.
Learn how Tourism challenges Bali's nature and get active in various marine and conservation projects on Bali and in Nusa Lembongan. Build a close connection to the sea while surfing and stand up paddling and find new inspiration while practicing yoga or climbing Bali's smaller volcano at sunrise!

Itinerary of your stay abroad
Itinerary: Bali Culture and Impact Tour
Arrival in Bali, meeting point: You will be picked up from the airport in Denpasar, Bali and driven directly to your first accommodation in the South of Bali. Please note that the transfer is only included in the service if you arrive on a Sunday. If you are already in Bali, we will arrange a meeting point with you from which our driver will take you to the accommodation together with the other participants.
At our Welcome BBQ you have the opportunity to meet your fellow travelers and the travel coordinators. You will also learn more about travel safety and get a cultural introduction.
Day 1: On the first day, we will start with a trip to the 2 most beautiful beaches on the Bukit Peninsula. Even if Bali is no longer a secret, there are still remote, white beaches with bright blue water. No pain, no gain: 350 steps down the cliff. The reward: picturesque cliffs and endless white sand beaches.
In the late afternoon you will have the opportunity to visit the world famous Uluwatu Temple and watch the spectacular Kecak dance at sunset on the 70 meter high Uluwatu cliff.
Day 2: After a relaxing first day we continue to the mangrove forest of Benoa. With over 20 different mangrove species, the mangrove forests on and around Bali belong to the world’s most biodiverse mangrove ecosystems. Learn from specialists how important the mangroves are for the coastal and the marine ecosystem and help to plant new trees. On your way to the next stop in Canggu, we will visit the turtle conservation center in Bali. The center, which opened its doors in 2006, takes in tens of thousands of threatened turtle eggs every year, allowing them to hatch in the shelter of the center and releasing them into the sea after about 1-2 weeks. Between April and September it’s hatching time on Bali!
We spend the evening on the beach of Canggu, a hip town with a surfer vibe - Sunset Time!
Day 3: It’s going to be an early start this morning! Meet your private surf guides and learn more about the sea and your limits: It’s time to catch your first waves! A yoga class in the evening will help you stretch those sore muscles. Thereafter, we will meet at your accommodation and will have a cozy BBQ and recharge for the next day.
Day 4: Today’s program is all about sightseeing. On the way to Ubud, we will stop at a historic temple and a tomb of the Hindus in the North of Ubud! This place is a real insider tip among local guides. Surrounded by picturesque rice terraces and small rivers the temple is an absolute must!
Once in Ubud, you will meet old acquaintances in the Monkey Forest: Attention, hold onto your glasses and your camera!
Day 5: Indonesia is known for its delicious cuisine! During a cooking class with a Balinese family, you will get to know the most popular dishes and try cooking them yourself; with supervision of course as you will have to eat it later! We will continue our travel and visit another Balinese family. They will tell you more about Hindu life and what tasks men and women have at ceremonies and during the preparation period. Learn how to craft "Canang Sari", the small offerings you will find everywhere on Bali’s streets. Enjoy the rest of the day strolling Ubud's colorful streets.
Day 6: On this day, you have different options: you may get up early in the morning (3 o'clock!) To watch the sunrise over Bali's clouds on Mt. Batur or to sleep in and start the day with a yoga lesson.
The next day we will continue to the North - so you may use the time to shop or relax in Ubud!
Day 7: The water temple Bedugul at Danau Bratan Lake is our next stop. If we’re lucky, it’s ceremony time and we can listen to traditional Gamelan tunes. Also, what would a Bali tour be without visiting a waterfall? We will not approach the tourist overcrowded GitGit waterfall, but look for an idyllic and less crowded sibling waterfall instead. Of course, we won’t go there just for watching: get ready to swim!
Day 8: We will leave Pemuteran in the morning and drive further to the National Park Taman Barat: we will snorkel around Menjangan Island and admire the beautiful and intact coral reefs. Back in Pemuteran you will learn more about the marine conservation efforts of the local community and how coral reefs are recontructed using a unique technique. The rest of the day, you can snorkel above 100 artificial coral reefs or stroll through the small fishing village.
Day 9: We will not take the shortest way back to the South but will make a detour to show you the beauty of the volcanic island. Together we travel by car along the Northeast coast, very close to Bali's largest and majestic volcano Gunung Agung. We will stop at Taman Ujung Park and in the small cozy town of Candidasa.
Once we have arrived in Sanur, we will check into a homestay for 1 night and end the evening at the night market with delicious and budget local dishes and snacks.
Day 10: We will take the first speed boat of the day to drive to Nusa Lembongan, Bali's small neighboring island. At a dive center, which is committed to coral reefs conservation, we will borrow our snorkeling equioment and help maintaining the corals or even plant some by ourselves. We then head to one of the few remaining seaweed farms in Nusa Lembongan to learn about its widespread use as a natural product and its role for the marine and coastal ecosystem.
This night you will stay in the hostel of a popular Indonesian Musician - it will be a fun night!
Day 11: We will head back to Bali early morning. Our last stop will be the beach in Jimbaran which is notorious for its good seafood restaurants; but we have even better plans! You can try out stand-up paddling and spend the whole day in the water. In the afternoon, we will do a beach clean up and analyse where most of the debris comes from and what is currently done to reduce plastic waste. During a tasty fish BBQ at the SUP Station we will look back on the last exciting days and enjoy the sunset.
Day 12: After breakfast it’s time for your return journey or your further travel plans.
