Internships in Spain

Richard’s internship in Valencia shows that going abroad is about much more than gaining work experience. From dancing and meeting people from around the world to navigating life in a new city, his story highlights how an internship abroad can become a powerful journey of personal growth.

My time abroad in Valencia was much more than just an internship – it was a period full of new experiences, personal growth, and intense moments.

The very first thing I noticed when I took the metro to my new apartment was the energy of the city. Valencia is alive – whether through its people, the weather, or the countless events. What shaped my experience the most was my time at the dance school, where I worked. Dancing and connecting with the other dancers quickly became a central part of my daily life and the perfect way for me to meet new people. I made many international connections there and developed both as a dancer and as a person.

A big part of my experience was also learning how to navigate life in a new city without fixed structures. Alongside all the social experiences, there were many moments when I realized how important balance is. Between the high-energy environment at the dance school and all the new encounters, it was just as important to slow down sometimes—whether by taking a relaxed walk through the city or meeting friends for a coffee.

There was also a huge variety of events and activities available. On weekends, I was able to travel with friends to other cities in Spain and even to Morocco.

One particularly memorable experience was the Fallas festival. The entire city was in motion—people everywhere, music, fireworks, and finally the burning of the large sculptures. It’s something you won’t forget anytime soon.

Looking back, what I take away most is how valuable it is to put yourself into new situations again and again. I would recommend working at a dance school to anyone who wants to make dance a central part of their daily life. At the same time, you should be able to handle a certain level of stress, enjoy meeting lots of new people, and be open to a bit of chaos.

I would recommend spending time abroad to anyone—not just because of the new environment, but especially because of the personal growth that comes with it.
