Erasmus+ Internship in Dublin: Mischell’s Experience Report from Ireland
CATEGORY: Internship Abroad
COUNTRY: Ireland
READING TIME: 5 minutes
For many university students, an Erasmus+ internship is the perfect opportunity to gain international experience, grow professionally, and discover a new culture up close. Mischell decided to take this path and spent several months in Dublin, where she worked at a renowned cultural institution, improved her English, and immersed herself in Irish life. In her report, she shares how StudentsGoAbroad supported her from the very first call until the last day of her stay.
My Erasmus+ internship took me to Ireland in the summer semester of 2025 — specifically to Dublin, where I lived from early August to the end of October and worked in a museum. I am currently studying Art History in the fifth semester of my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Graz and wanted to gain practical experience in an internationally renowned museum while improving my English skills.
Planning my trip with StudentsGoAbroad
My stay was organized through SGA’s partner organization, which I can wholeheartedly recommend. From the very beginning, everything was handled with incredible professionalism, friendliness, and reliability. They took care of the entire organization: they found both a suitable internship placement and a wonderful host family for me, arranged airport transfers to and from Dublin, supported me with all the necessary university documents, and even helped organize my Leap Card for public transport. I hardly had to take care of anything myself, which made the start abroad so much easier. Looking back, I can say that the cost of the complete package was absolutely worth it — everything ran smoothly, and I felt well supported from day one.
What I especially appreciated was their reliability and availability. Whenever I had a question, I could reach out immediately and always received a quick and helpful response. In addition, a WhatsApp group was created for all the interns in Dublin, which was a great way to exchange ideas, meet new people, and organize activities together. Honestly, it was a lot of fun and created a strong sense of community in a new city. After about a month, another intern who had also come through SGA joined my host family. We got along instantly and developed a really close friendship. She was just as enthusiastic and said that everyone was incredibly kind and supportive. It was wonderful to share this experience with someone going through the same thing — we truly had a great time together.
My time as an intern in Dublin, Ireland
My host family was simply fantastic. I was warmly welcomed and felt at home from the very first day. The house was beautiful, my room was cozy, and the food was delicious. We often had meals together and talked a lot, which helped me improve my English naturally in everyday life. I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better accommodation.
My internship at the museum was diverse and very educational. I worked both in the museum shop and in the Collections Department. In the shop, I had plenty of contact with visitors, which helped me strengthen my communication skills and gain insights into museum operations from a visitor’s perspective. In the collections area, I learned about the archiving system and assisted with the digital documentation and management of artworks. It was especially exciting to take part in meetings and presentations and to see how much organization and teamwork go on behind the scenes of a museum. My team was incredibly friendly and dedicated, and I always felt appreciated and included.
Life in Dublin itself was a wonderful experience. The city is vibrant, full of culture, music, and history — there’s always something to do! I particularly enjoyed the many museums, galleries, and pubs with live music. There are also beautiful places to visit nearby, such as Howth, Bray, or Glendalough, all easily accessible by public transport. With the Leap Card, I could get anywhere conveniently, so a car was never necessary. Another plus was that the partner organization regularly checked in during my stay. About halfway through my internship, they reached out to ask how I was doing, how I had settled in, and whether everything was going well. This personal interest and ongoing support gave me the reassuring feeling that I was always well looked after and could rely on help if needed.
Looking back, my Erasmus+ internship in Dublin was an unforgettable and enriching experience — both professionally and personally. I was able to apply my theoretical knowledge from Art History in a practical setting, gain valuable insights into museum work, and significantly improve both my professional and language skills. At the same time, I formed many new friendships and discovered a city that left a lasting impression on me.
