A year in sunny California – for Nina, this dream became reality. In her experience report, she recounts how she not only completed her internship in Orange County, but also immersed herself deeply in American culture, from holidays such as the 4th of July to road trips across the USA.

One year in California, a backpack full of experiences – as part of my studies in Tourism and Business Management, I had the opportunity to complete an unforgettable internship in sunny Orange County. During this time, I not only deepened my knowledge in marketing and administration, but also gained valuable insights into the American work environment and culture.

More than just professional development

The experience made me incredibly independent and opened up new perspectives for my future career. What I found especially enriching were the people I met along the way – warm, open-minded locals who welcomed me with open arms from day one. Some of them became like a second family to me and will always hold a special place in my heart.

I had the chance to experience American holidays as authentically as possible – the 4th of July with fireworks, BBQs, and good vibes; Thanksgiving with a delicious traditional feast; and of course, Christmas celebrated in true American style. Sharing in these festivities like the locals do was truly something special.

Since I was already in the U.S., I used my weekends and vacation days to travel to other states as well. Each trip brought new impressions and encounters – from beach life in California to city breaks and breathtaking nature experiences in national parks.

My English improved significantly during this time – not only through work, but also through daily conversations with colleagues and friends. Working with my team showed me just how rewarding intercultural collaboration can be.

Conclusion after several months in the US

Looking back, I can confidently say: spending a year abroad was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I grew not only professionally, but also personally in so many ways. If you ever get the chance to embark on such an adventure – my advice is simple: go for it!
