3-Month Internship in Bali: Alina’s Journey at a Children’s Home
CATEGORY: Internship abroad - Child care
COUNTRY: Indonesia (Bali)
READING TIME: 4 minutes
University student Alina spent three unforgettable months interning at a children’s home on Bali. Her experience not only deepened her cultural understanding but also offered her personal growth, valuable connections, and memorable adventures. From navigating local customs to building bonds with the children, Alina shares why this internship was one of the best decisions of her life.
As part of my studies (Early Childhood Education), I had to complete an internship. From the very beginning, I was determined to use this opportunity to go abroad. After all, when else would I get the chance to immerse myself so deeply in a new culture?
After thorough research, I initially couldn’t decide where to go. I had some initial concerns since this was my first major trip alone. However, I decided on Bali as I delved deeper into exploring different countries and cultures. Looking back, it was the right choice. During my three-month internship, I never felt unsafe as a woman traveling alone. The locals are incredibly warm and helpful, making you feel welcome when you arrive.
I quickly adapted to the left-hand traffic and riding a scooter – it was easier than expected, especially since the rules are less strict. Life on the island was also made much easier by the support of the locals. Sharing accommodation meant someone was always around to help with questions or issues.

My life as an intern in Bali, Indonesia
Working at the children's home was initially challenging since I was the only intern during the initial weeks. This meant that all the tasks fell solely on me at the beginning. However, with some organization and dedication, I managed it well. After four weeks, I was joined by another intern, and from then on, we could divide the responsibilities more effectively. We planned activities for the children, enjoyed beach days, and even cooked meals with them.
The monthly volunteer gatherings were an excellent opportunity to connect and exchange experiences with other interns. The director of the children’s home raises the kids bilingually, so communication in English was never an issue – even the youngest children spoke the language surprisingly well! The kids were adorable, and working with them brought me joy.
- Happy days with children.

My conclusion after three months of internship in Bali
The working hours were comfortable, leaving weekends free for personal time. Traveling for a few days was also very flexible and straightforward.
Bali is a dream destination: the southern beaches are stunning, with countless exciting activities and attractions. The combination of nature, culture, and warm-hearted people made this experience unforgettable.
Overall, the internship was one of the best decisions of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat and can wholeheartedly recommend it!
