Bali, Children, and Self-Growth : My Volunteering Story

"Extraordinary and Diverse, Bali- The Island of Gods has helped me grow personally through the people, the culture, and the experience."

Hot is the first feeling I noticed immediately after stepping my foot on Bali ground but trust me, adapting to the climate was an easy thing. It did not take me long to find comfort, especially as soon as my housemates welcomed me to the students' house.

After a few days of acclimatization, (which I really recommend doing) and an introduction to the children's house in Jimbaran, I began with my routines. Together with the other volunteers, I was able to coordinate our presence at the children's house myself. You had the choice to either work in the morning or afternoon, and your main tasks would mainly be taking care of the laundries, giving the children proper showers picking them up from school, helping them during the meals and obviously playing and learning with them.

There were 9 children in total between a few months to 11 years. Everyone was unbelievably nice and helpful. Of course, it was quite challenging at first, but the longer it went, the funnier it got. I ended up taking them all in my heart and leaving them was exceptionally hard.

During my free time, I made several trips around Bali where I discovered and did so many awesome things! Climbing a 3100m volcano in the middle of the night to see the sunrise, a shower in a waterfall, dolphins and turtles watching while snorkeling and diving, and eating fresh seafood on the beach while watching the sunset.
