Internship in Vancouver: Why Canada Is Perfect for Your International Experience
CATEGORY: Internship Abroad - Tips
COUNTRY: Canada
READING TIME: 4 minutes
Many young people dream of living and working in Canada while experiencing its unique mix of nature, city life, and international atmosphere. That’s exactly what our SGA Customer Manager Claudi experienced when she visited our partner team in Vancouver in person. During her stay, she not only gained valuable insights into local support and internship coordination, but also discovered firsthand why Vancouver is such a special destination for an internship in Canada. In this experience report, she takes you behind the scenes — straight into one of North America’s most exciting cities.
As a Customer Manager at StudentsGoAbroad, I recently had the chance to visit our local team in Vancouver in person. From the very beginning, Timothy and the team welcomed me in an incredibly warm and open way – relaxed, friendly, and very much in the spirit of Vancouver itself.
Being on site made a big difference. We talked in depth about our day-to-day work, how our teams collaborate, and how we can make the experience for our participants even smoother. When it comes to internships abroad, good communication and clear processes matter a lot – and meeting face to face always helps to strengthen that connection.
More than just an internship in Canada
One key topic during our exchange was everything that happens beyond the internship placement itself. Vancouver is not just about gaining work experience – it’s also about meeting people and enjoying life abroad. The local team organizes excursions, social activities, and regular intern meet-ups, making it much easier to connect with other international participants. Especially if you’re abroad for the first time, this kind of community makes a huge difference.
Living on campus at the University of British Columbia
During my stay, I lived directly on the UBC campus, which gave me a real feel for student life in Canada. Everything is close by: cafés, green spaces, study areas, and the ocean just around the corner.
Another big plus is public transport. The campus is very well connected, and it takes around 25 minutes to get downtown by bus or SkyTrain. That means you can enjoy the calm campus vibe during the day and still be right in the city in the evening – no car needed.
Why Vancouver is a great choice for 18–30-year-olds
Vancouver offers a balance that’s hard to beat: international work experience combined with an active lifestyle. After your internship, you can head to the beach, explore the mountains, meet friends for coffee, or discover new neighborhoods – everything feels accessible and easy.
Visiting our team on site really showed me how much dedication goes into supporting our participants locally. For anyone between 18 and 30 looking to gain international experience, grow professionally, and make memories along the way, Vancouver is definitely a destination worth considering – and with a strong team on the ground, you’re never on your own.
