Graphic Design in Valencia: Onur’s Internship Experience
CATEGORY: Internship Abroad – Graphic design
COUNTRY: Spain
READING TIME: 6 minutes
Onur spent several weeks in Valencia, working in graphic design and experiencing everyday life in Spain. Between his internship, new friendships, day trips, and many small everyday moments, his time abroad became a truly formative experience. In his internship report, Onur shares how Valencia helped him become more independent, open, and confident.
On July 20, a very special chapter began for me: I set off for Valencia, Spain, to live and work there until September 13. Even before the trip, I was curious about what to expect. At the same time, there was of course a bit of nervousness about going to another country for several weeks, getting to know a new environment and spending my daily life far away from home. Looking back, I can say that this time became one of the most wonderful and formative experiences of my life.
Arrival and first impressions
Right when I arrived in Valencia, the city impressed me with its special way of life. The warm, sunny weather, the many palm trees, the proximity to the sea and the lively atmosphere immediately made me feel comfortable. My accommodation gave me a fixed place to settle in, and at the same time I could discover the city a little more every day.I especially liked that there was something new to see or experience almost every day. I walked through the streets a lot, discovered different neighborhoods, tried new cafés and restaurants, and simply let the atmosphere of the city sink in. To me, Valencia has a special mix of big city, beach, culture and Spanish joie de vivre. Because of that, even an ordinary walk quickly turned into a little adventure.
My daily life: working and gathering experiences
During my stay, I worked as an intern in graphic design. This allowed me not only to get to know life in Spain, but also to gain practical experience in my professional field. It was interesting to see how people work in another country and what differences and similarities there are compared to my previous daily routine.I had support the whole time and could turn to others at any moment if I had questions or needed help. That made me feel more and more confident and, at the same time, more independent. It was especially nice to contribute my own skills, get to know new tasks and gain new perspectives on my profession along the way.
Besides work, I of course also had plenty of time to explore Valencia and the surrounding area. I met a lot of people and made friends with people from different countries and cultures. These encounters in particular were an important part of my stay. You don't just get to know other people, but also new perspectives, habits and ways of life.I also took many photos that will remind me of this time for a long while. Whether on a walk through the city, at the beach, during a meal with others or on a trip, almost every day had a moment I wanted to capture.I also tried a lot of new food. I got to know various Spanish dishes and typical specialties and noticed how closely food is tied to culture and way of life. Of course, the famous paella couldn't be missing either.
Day trips and special moments
During my stay, I didn't only explore Valencia but also made trips to other cities and places. The visits to Barcelona and Altea, for example, were especially nice. They let me see even more of Spain and experience different landscapes, cities and atmospheres.Still, it wasn't always the big excursions that stayed in my memory the most. Often it was the small moments in everyday life: a beautiful sunset, a spontaneous walk, a shared meal, a conversation with people I had just met, or a place I discovered by chance. It was exactly these moments that made my stay so special.
A time in which I got to know myself betterBesides all the new impressions, I also learned a great deal about myself during this time. For the first time, I spent an extended period in an environment that wasn't my familiar one. I had to adjust to new situations, act more independently and keep opening myself up to the unfamiliar.Because of this, I realized that I can do much more than I may have thought before. I became more self-confident, learned to approach people more openly and to adapt to new situations more quickly. I would therefore say that during my stay I got to know not only Spain and new people, but also myself a little better.
Goodbye sweet home – A farewell with many memories
On September 13, it was finally time to say goodbye again. After such a long and intense time, it felt strange to leave Valencia. On the one hand, I was of course looking forward to being home; on the other, I knew I would be leaving behind many people, places and my new daily routine. Looking back, I am above all grateful for all the experiences I was able to gather. I worked, met new people, saw new cities, tried different food, took countless photos and learned something new every day.For me, my stay abroad in Valencia was therefore much more than just a trip or an internship. It was a time full of new experiences, challenges, friendships and personal growth. I learned to be more open, to act more independently and to simply try new things. I will certainly carry these experiences with me for a long time, and Valencia will always be a place with which I connect very many happy memories.
