Lovely Bali: Jimbaran Children Home Volunteer Experience
Brief story of Caro's experience volunteering in a children's home in Jimbaran, Bali. It is fairly lovely!
"You will love the kids straight away and is a pleasure to play and learn with them. I especially liked the challenge concerning the language barrier."
This was the first time I traveled to far away from home and I didn’t know what to expect. I knew that I will live with other volunteers and will work in an orphanage. My roommates helped me to get to know the most important facts and places in a really short time. I got used to it really fast and it was a great group of young people with who I spend my whole spare time. I had to get used to driving the scooter and the traffic, but once you got the knack of it and have a slight overview of the location, it is quite a lot of fun!
Working in the orphanage was really interesting. We consisted of 4 volunteers and had to take care of 7 children. We shared our working time, so 2 girls worked in the morning and the others worked in the afternoon. This was actually advantageous, as we had some time to discover the Island and get to know Bali better. You will love the kids straight away and is a pleasure to play and learn with them. I especially liked the challenge concerning the language barrier. We had funny situations and it was hard to say goodbye in the end.
We did some great day trips together and we tried to see as much as possible from the island. Bali is an incredible island with wonderful people, which will amaze you.
I would always recommend this way to stay abroad for everyone. You are forced to live and act independently; I really benefited from that. All in all, I have found friends for life and I really want to come back. There is something I have learned from Bali: Everything will wow, and somehow that’s a pretty good thing!
