Christina, a medical student from Germany, spent one month at a private clinic in Valencia, diving into the world of orthopedics and rehabilitation. From observing surgeries to joining doctors on their rounds, she got an up-close look at Spanish healthcare while enjoying everything the vibrant city of Valencia has to offer.

As a medical student from Saarland, I had the unique opportunity to complete a one-month nursing internship at a renowned private clinic in Valencia. This experience proved to be extremely valuable and formative, both professionally and personally. The warm welcome from the team and the opportunity to quickly take on responsibilities created a positive and educational atmosphere from the start. Since the clinic specializes in orthopedics and rehabilitation, this perfectly aligned with my particular interest in these medical fields. In the following, I would like to describe my diverse impressions and experiences during this internship in more detail.

  • Paella in the city centre of Valencia
  • Christina at the famous Oceanogràfic València

My medical internship in Valencia

I found it particularly exciting to be actively involved in the daily clinical routine. I was allowed to independently perform ECGs, which gave me a better understanding of cardiological diagnostics. I also had the opportunity to observe surgeries and was fascinated to learn about the procedures in the operating room. The ward rounds with the doctors were also particularly enriching, as they allowed me to better understand clinical pictures and treatment strategies. The doctors were all very friendly and took the time to answer my questions, occasionally even during a coffee break in the staff room.

The challenge of learning medical terminology in another language was also very rewarding. With a B2 level in Spanish, I could communicate without any problems, yet the constant interaction with patients and colleagues helped me a lot to further improve my language skills.

Valencia as an internship location

In addition to the internship, I enjoyed exploring the beautiful city. The mix of historical charm and modern cityscape immediately captivated me. I spent many hours in the Turia Park and, of course, tried the famous Paella Valenciana.

A particular highlight was the Fallas de Valencia, an unforgettable spectacle of fireworks, traditions, and exuberant atmosphere. Thanks to the many offers from the local organization, I was able to quickly connect with people and have great experiences together.

My conclusion

My internship at the clinic was a perfect combination of professional development and cultural experience. I was able to expand my specialist knowledge, acquire new practical skills, and deepen my language skills. The clinic team was incredibly helpful and open-minded and gave me a comprehensive insight into the daily medical routine. I can highly recommend this internship to anyone.
