Ecuador: Our Must-Sees in Galapagos
Spending time abroad must have been done with fulfillment! These are our version of Must-Sees for when you are spending some time in Ecuador!
The Galapagos Islands are 1,000 km apart from the mainland. Its diverse flora, fauna and the myth of Charles Darwin attract lots of different people from all over the world.
The Galapagos Archipelago
The Galapagos Islands are located 1000 kilometers west of Ecuador. There are 14 major and 100 small islands, where Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela, Floreana belong to the National Park. The name comes from the unique giant turtle.
The Galapagos Discovery
Charles Darwin was the main impetus for his theory of evolution in Tierra del Fuego and the Galapagos Islands. In his honor, therefore, the Charles Darwin Research Station of Santa Cruz was named after him. About 200 scientists and volunteers are working on projects for natural biodiversity conservation. The most well known is the research of the mysterious giant turtle.
Not for Beginners
Most of the facilities are world-class scuba diving on the Archipelago. The underwater world is like an aquarium, and the diversity is overwhelming. Hammer, whales, sharks, manta rays, sea horses and a number of tropical fish are living here. It is an essential experience because of the under high currents depending on the season. You will also be able to find some good surf spots if you don’t care about the presence of sea lions. In addition to the Charles Darwin Research Center, for example, you will carry your surfboard to Tortuga Bay. But again, for your surfing adventure: you must not be a beginner.
Lava Caves
Just in the north of Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz, a road leads directly to the lava caves, which have more than 1 km way underground. Armed with a flashlight, you will learn about the formation of islands from the ground.
