Are the internships paid?
Usually internships in Japan are without remuneration.
What are the working hours during the internship?
Working hours are usually between 9.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. but may vary depending on the company and industry.
Who can I turn to if I have problems?
You can always contact the 24-hour emergency service of our partner organization. For general questions, you can reach the SGA team and the team on-site during the respective business hours.

Do I need to be fluent in Japanese and English?
Very good command of English is essential for communication with colleagues, and how good your Japanese language skills should depend on your internship. We recommend a Japanese language course before and during your stay.
Where will I live during the internship?
You will live in shared apartments together with other interns or with carefully selected host families.
Is catering included in the price?
No, the interns in the shared apartments will be self-sufficient. For this purpose, the accommodation offers a kitchen.
Interns living with host families will have breakfast together with the family. By arrangement, they will also eat together in the evening.
Do I need a visa for my stay?
Yes. What kind of visa you need depends on how long you stay in Japan. For up to 90 days a tourist visa is sufficient, for longer stays the Cultural Activity Visa must be applied for.
Are there any special local rules I have to follow?
In general, you should always be polite and respectful and take punctuality very seriously.
How much money should I budget for living expenses?
The cost of living is higher than in Germany. The expenses depend on your personal lifestyle, of course, but you should be able to get by with 1000€ to 1200€ per month including room and board.
Is there a good public transport system in Japan?
Japan has a well-developed public transport network - but only until midnight, so it's called "catch the last train". Those who want to go out longer use the taxi for the way home.
How big is the time difference?
From Germany, there is a time difference of 7 hours, so Japan is 7 hours ahead.
What is the local climate like?
The seasons in Fukuoka are similar to those in Southern Europe, except for a rainy season in June/July (summer monsoon). The highest temperature ever measured was 37.7 °C (15 August 2004), the lowest -8.2 °C (5 February 1919).
