Travel Preparation ++ Volunteer ++ Internship ++ Philippines

Travel Planning Tips to The Philippines

Make sure you are well prepared for your trip to The Philippines! Here are the highlight points we prepared for you.

Flight & Arrival

To reach your volunteer destination Tigman, you will fly to the Puerto Princesa International Airport which is located in the capital of the island Puerto Princesa. Your local coordinator will pick you up at the airport and drop you at your accommodation in Tigman.

There are barely any direct flights to Palawan, so you will have at least one stopover until you reach your destination.

Please note, that most international airports in the Philippines charge an airport tax upon departure.

Mobility

Jeepneys are a very common means of transport in the Philippines. These are converted army jeeps that are leftover from the US army in World War II. However, in the cities, there is also a fully developed bus transportation system. In the rural area's buses run only at certain times. Another very popular means of transport are the so-called Habal-Habal, these are motorcycle taxis.

Vaccinations

Before you start your journey to the Philippines, please make sure that you are up to date on your vaccines. You will need the following ones:

Tetanus

Hepatitis A and B

Diphtheria

Whooping Cough

Polio

MMR

Pneumococcus

Influenza

Further information on the recommended vaccinations can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
