Funding Opportunities for Volunteer Work Abroad
When planning a voluntary work abroad, one often forgets that there are also possibilities of state support and that one is not only dependent on oneself for financing; even if the stay has no academic character. We know from experience that the following programs are also available for volunteer work.
BAföG- Support for stays abroad
You can also apply for BAföG for your voluntary service abroad. However, only if you can have your volunteer work recognised as an internship within the scope of your studies. If you are studying pedagogy, for example, you can usually get your volunteer work in the field of teaching and education recognised without any problems.

DAAD Funding Opportunities
In order to qualify for some of the DAAD's funding programs, volunteer work must be recognized as a kind of voluntary internship, as is the case with BAföG. The following DAAD programmes are also available for volunteer programmes:
PROMOS
The Promos program supports your stay abroad with amounts of up to 500€ per month. If your university is eligible for funding under the PROMOS program, you should always submit an application if the volunteer work is recognized as an internship by your university.
