About this position
Overview: Marine Conservation Program: Coral Reef Restoration in Bali
This organization has undertaken the rebuilding of the coral reefs on the bay off Pemuteran in northern Bali. A large part of the reefs was destroyed there mainly in the 1980s by dynamite fishing and heavy boat traffic. In 2000, a local community initiative began to educate fishermen on sustainable fishing practices and they started to issue bans. The organization now supports the local community in the rebuilding of coral reefs, which are not only a magnet for tourists, but also for scientists from all over the world.
