Exploring California Through an Internship: Svenja’s American Dream
CATEGORY: Marketing internship
COUNTRY: USA
READING TIME: 5 minutes
Svenja took the plunge and fulfilled her dream of an internship abroad in the USA with SGA. From the visa process to accommodation in Orange County, Svenja overcame every challenge of her marketing internship with a Californian real estate company. In her report, she shares her exciting experiences with you.
It has always been my dream to visit the USA. That's why I quickly decided that I wanted to do my internship there, and I chose California. With the help of studentsgoabroad, this dream became a reality. After receiving an internship offer, the preparations began. The visa application took some time, but thanks to the support of studentsgoabroad, everything went smoothly.
Of course, I also had to arrange accommodation. With the help of a company specializing in housing for students and interns, I found an apartment I shared with three other students. I also had to get a car, as it's almost impossible to get around Orange County without one. Fortunately, I could take over the car from the previous intern, which saved me a lot of effort. My adventure could begin once accommodation, car, and visa were sorted out.

Leisure activities during my internship
California truly has a lot to offer. On weekends, I often drove to Los Angeles and visited famous spots like Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice, Beverly Hills, and Downtown LA. I also made trips to Malibu and San Diego. Even after eight months, I never got bored, as there was always something new to discover. But even in Orange County, where I lived, there was plenty to do. The area has some of the most beautiful coastal towns and beaches. There are also many outdoor malls, perfect for shopping. After work, I often went to the cinema or tried out the numerous fast-food chains. Occasionally, I went out to bars with friends.

Internship life in Newport Beach
I worked at a real estate company. Through my internship, I had the opportunity to experience the American work culture firsthand. From day one, I was warmly welcomed and felt comfortable right away. Everyone was always open to helping me, and I received constant support. My tasks included design work, such as creating marketing materials, social media posts, reels, administrative duties, and much more. During breaks, I often walked along the coast and enjoyed the sunshine.
Conclusion of my US internship
I would do it again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone up for an adventure. An internship abroad really helps you grow personally and professionally and gain life-changing experiences. Despite some challenges, the personal and professional growth I experienced during this time was priceless.
